Ambery Monument
Near the start of the Pouakai Circuit, a monument to one of many people who lost their lives climbing the mountain (in Ambery’s case, while trying to rescue someone). At more than 2500 meters, Taranaki isn’t huge by mountain standards but it’s not small, either, and the frequently difficult weather conditions make it a chancey climb. I saved that hike for my next visit
